Take 1: Act Out Your Career
UCOL’s Act Out Your Career website is a great example of how a simple social networking idea can help build a brand.
The Act Out Your Career competition website has tapped into the social networking craze to give UCOL’s brand a major boost.
Visitors to the site are urged to make a video about what they want to do when they grow up, and upload it for others to comment and vote on. The winner walks away with $3,000 cash and runners up get an iPhone.
The site’s design reaches out to poverty stricken students with lavish wads of cash and the bling they’ll be rolling in if they win. But you don’t need to be a student to enter. Videos are hosted on You Tube and can be shared on Bebo and Facebook.
Shift helped the Universal College of Learning realise their idea that they’re treating as a bit of a social experiment.
This is one site that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is precisely why we expect it to take off.
Act Out Your Career is running until 30 January 2009.
