Preserving history into the future
Shift created a web strategy for the Historic Places Trust that provides a road map to help the Trust achieve its long term goals.
The New Zealand Historic Places Trust came to Shift with the ambitious vision of keeping their historic sites alive online. We loved their forward-thinking outlook but knew from experience that a robust and practical strategy was needed to make it happen.
We took the Trust’s wish-list and their own research and work-shopped ideas with a diverse bunch of stakeholders. We were then able to devise a list of priorities that was realistically aligned with their budget.
The result was a detailed road map that set out the steps towards achieving the Trust’s goal - to be a world leader in the digital management and promotion of heritage sites. The road map identifies six key themes to be achieved over three years.
We got some quick wins on the board with a new website that provides a platform for the features and functions pencilled in for later phases of development.
The site showcases the Trust’s stunning portfolio of historic properties and the communities around them. We drew on our rich experience in online tourism to achieve the user-focused design and content.
Sexy features like 3D tours, an island of historic sites on ‘Second Life’ and interactive exhibitions are all mapped out in the strategy.
The organisation charged with preserving our nation’s historic places is now fully equipped for its future online.
