Lawrence has worked in a variety of industries, including advertising, professional theatre, telecommunications, software development and direct marketing.
He was a founding member of Xtra's e-commerce team and product manager of New Zealand's first online mall, building the tenancy to over 200 merchants by 2001. He then helped set up web-development company CyberElves, managed Proximity ID's development team and was General Manager of open-source integrator Asterisk.
